Excellent history of the truth about what has happened in Ukraine that so few other Substack newsletters on the same topic include. Thank you for documenting it as more people need to be aware of it. See my article on earlier history of Russia and Ukraine and how it relates to ethnic conflict and anger on Search For Truth News.
My previous article, part 1, goes into some detail of the historical causes of the disunity between the Ukrainians and the Russians, as well. A very sad story, exacerbated by non-Russians and non-Ukrainians for their own gains.
I'm halfway through your article, and will likely talk about that in a later article here on my substack. Nice work!
Yes, I am reading your Part 1 history too. Ukraine has been fought over for 1200 years and changed hands many times but never independent country until collapse of USSR. Primarily part of Russian Empire though. Even then, the US had its eyes on it as the bridge to competing with Russia for world power.
Russia has rarely NOT been involved in war, imperial expansion and colonization. Its tremendous size of empire, number of people ruled, and culture is key to understanding European values. Bad treatment of the peasants by Oligarchs throughout. The horrific terror caused by Stalin and WW II ethnic cleaning and population transfers makes me sick just thinking about it. Trauma at that level is passed on generation after generation. History must not be forgotten if humanity is ever to evolve beyond the violence.
Wow, this is a deep dive indeed. Criminally under read, the truth is there are few that’ll make the commitment when tweets exist. Regardless, I appreciate this study and commend you, a precious archive that will stand the test of time. Dropped a few quotes form part 1 at a recent dinner event which quieted some do the more foolish anti-Russian ranting.
